IIIIII’m BAAAAAACK!
Not that any of you noticed I was gone in the first place. D:
Raveen and I left last Saturday for a weekend-long vacation. We woke up around…maybe 6:00 a.m.? I didn’t even look at the clock. We did some last minute packing. Even after flipping out about how Raven and I always take so long to get ready, Mom and Dad were the last ones out the door and in the car. As usual. We left the house around 9:15.
Stopping once for gas, it was about a 3 hour drive to Van Dam where a bunch of our ‘family friends’ were camping. Not very long by our standards, and I slept most of the way, so it seemed even shorter than in was. We arrived at noon, but check-in time at our hotel wasn’t until 3:00, so we had to wait it out. Mom, Raveen and I were all starving by this time, since we neglected to eat breakfast. But, our luck being bad, no one at camp had any lunch prepared, so we just ate Goldfish crackers. I also brought along a bag of peaches, so I had one of those too. Not entirely filling.
After snack-age, Raven and I took a short walk into the forest to the little river that was nearby. Once we were there we had an interesting conversation.
Reese: *Looks around* Enter, Konoha.
Raven: SKREEEEEEEM! *Points at a huge Banana Slug oozing across the path* It’s Tsunade-Sama! O_O
Reese: Well I’ll be damned…I wonder if there are any Ero Sennins around here…
Raven: *Blink* Do you think they have Orochimaru-Samas here too?
Reese: Most assuredly.
Raven: Narutos?
Reese: Yup.
Raven: Gaaras?
Reese: Duuuh…
Raven: What about Sasukes? >D
Reese: At the beach. >D
Raven and Reese: Duuuck Buuuutt. *Grin*
Yes, we’re odd. Instead of just saying the names of animals, we feel it necessary to refer to their human counter-parts. Tsunade’s a slug, Jiraiya‘s a frog, Orochi-gay’s a snake, Naruto’s a fox, Gaara’s a raccoon, and Sasuke’s a duck; or more precisely, a duck’s rear end.
Despite all of the random Naruto characters prowling around the forest, standing by a river and doing nothing gets old fast; ‘specially when you’ve been in the car all day. So, we walked back to camp, discarded shoes and socks, wrangled up our mother and headed for the beach. It’s just about a five minute walk from the campsite.
We stayed at the beach for a couple of hours, collecting shards of abalone shells that had washed up. If you’ve never seen that kind of shell, they’re very purdy; they’re sometimes called “Mother of Pearl.” The animal living inside them resembles a huge, slimy slug, though. And they taste good when fried. Lawl.
Once we left the beach and got back to camp, Raven and I sat around and played cards while feeding more Goldfish to a little black bird that seemed fond of humans. O_o That is, until a mean ol’ blue jay - who’s crest looked oddly like Sasuke’s hair - scared him away. When it was finally 3:00, we drove a few miles away to Fort Bragg. We checked in, dropped all of our shit off in the room, and then ran out to Mickey D’s to get some lunch. We also went into Safeway to get some cheesecake, M&Ms, bubble gum, and marshmallows. 8D Then it was back to camp where we spent pretty much the rest of the day.
After dinner though, Mom, Raveen and I all went back to the hotel early to swim in their pool. On the way out of the camp, one of the park rangers stopped us to let us know one of our break lights was out. O_o But that was really random.
Once we were at the hotel, we changed into our bathing suits and walked down to the pool, where I, of course, practiced the usual stunts; somersaults, back flips, drowning Raveen...The pool closed at 10:00 p.m. though, so we had to get out after 45 minutes. We went back to the room, put on our pajamas and got into bed. Dad came back up a little later.
Now, I’ve never much liked sleeping in hotel rooms; the sheets are always stiff and scratchy. But it certainly doesn’t make matters any better when you sleep next to Raveen, who has a habit of thrashing about in her sleep. Not to mention, Dad snores like a freight train, and so did the guy who was sleeping in the next room…e_e
All of this combined and I got a total of about three hours sleep.
So ended the first day.
Despite the uncomfortable night, the next morning I got up true to Reese-fashion; that is, hyper despite lack of food/sleep/energy. I never get tired…O_o
We had a tiny breakfast in the hotel lobby, went out to camp, and had a second breakfast of blueberry pancakes. Afterwards, of course, Raveen and I had much sugar to burn, so once again we headed down to the beach. We made our way to our favorite little end, and I went and found myself a nice big plot of sand where I drew a huge image of Shino; the same as the one in my WebCam, actually. (I swear, I’m going to make that thing into my water mark. XDDD) After the “sketch” was done, Raven and I dug out all the lines into three-inch deep trenches. I considered leaving it like that, but in the end I decided to make it a little more noticeable to any poor, horrified people that might happen to fly by in airplanes. Thus, I went to work gathering rocks and filling in the trenches. It took a looong time carrying one handful at a time, but in the end both Raveen and Mom stepped in to help, so we got the thing finished. Apparently it took about four hours from start to finish. XD Somewhere along the line, Raveen thought it would be helpful to toss the rocks to me while I placed them, an succeeded in skinning the top of my thumb.
Reese: *Looks at hand* “Blooooooood…*About to lick*
Mom: D<
Reese: >_> *Covers it with sand instead*
My sand-aid did a pretty good job of keeping it from bleeding all over me, and by the end of the Shino Project, my skin had already healed over the majority of the raw spot, sand-ness included. I was like, “SKREEEEEEEEM! IT’S IN MEEEE! D:” Needless to say, the other two thought I was crazy…
After Shino was finished, I really wanted to write “Shino 4 Prezident” in big letters somewhere near it, but Raven beat me to it and wrote a message to Dezzy instead. XD I’ll get some pictures posted soon enough. We spent another half hour looking for more shells. The whole time, I couldn’t get the melody to “Ryuusei” out of my head. O_o
Afterward, we headed back to camp for dinner. This, my friends, is where the day took a deadly turn! *Over-exaggerates*
Raveen goes off to the car to change out of her shorts, and as she’s walking away I’m like, “Are you going to come and play cards with me when you’re done?”
She agrees and continues on her merry way. A few minutes later, I’m getting impatient, so I walk over to the car and I open up the trunk to grab a container of cherries to snack on. Of course, from back there, all I can see is the back of Raveen’s head and it looks like she’s just sitting there doing nothing. So I walk over to her door, pull it open, and I go, “Raveen! What’s taking so long? You said you were going to come and play cards with meh. D<”
Raven: Yammy! DDD<
Reese: *About to laugh*
Raven: *Rage* *Slams door shut*
All would have been fine and dandy, had my finger not been in the door when she slammed it. D8<
It took me all of a second and a half to realize I was in pain and finally I go, “Damn it, my finger’s in the door!!!11! *Spazz*” So Raveen opens the door enough for me to get my poor, mangled finger out and then slams it shut again. I look down and the thing’s bleeding like a fountain. Mom happened to be on the other side of the car and she comes over to see what happened, and even she’s got one of those “OMG I hope it doesn’t fall off” looks on her face. We finally got the thing to stop bleeding. Mom only had one band-aid and three aspirins with her, so we had to make due with that. Then Raveen gets out of the car to come at survey the damage and she’s like, “T_T I killed Reesey.” I had to walk around the rest of the day with my arm in an imaginary sling to stop the bleeding from starting up again, and my whole hand got numb from lack of blood flow. Not fun.
After dinner, Mom, Raveen and I all left early again. We stopped at Longs on our way back to the hotel to pick up more band-aids and more aspirin. We happened to pass by the candy isle and just couldn’t leave there empty handed. X3 Once we were done there, we drove over to Starbucks. It was just our luck that while we were inside ordering, two cop cars pull up outside and the guys get out and come in to order. All three of us were like, “O____O;” We got our drinks and head back out to the car.
Raven: *Opens her door* Look Nee-Chan, your flesh is still on the door. ^______^
Reese: - -+
Raven: O_O *Shuts up and gets in*
We had to go out the back exit so the cops wouldn’t see our dead brake light. XD Raveen and I were like, “We be runnin’ from da law, yoz.”
Once we were back at the room, we finished our drinks and went down to the pool again. I managed to paddle around with one arm, so it wasn’t all bad. The chlorine seemed to help meh finger a bit. Once again, we went up to the room and got in bed.
The third day was pretty much more of the same. We had breakfast and drove to camp. It was raining, but nothing terribly heavy. We did the usual; walked down to the beach, puttered around by the river, and ate lots and lots of snack food. Around lunch time Raveen and I got bored, so Mom took us into town. We walked around and visited a bunch of shops. By the end of the walk, it had turned into more of a plushie hunt than anything, as Raveen developed a kinky obsession with finding a raccoon plush and naming it Gaara. We finally came across one and bought it, and Raven carried it around zipped in her jacket for the rest of the day.
We went back to camp for dinner, after which we sat around the fire for a while, roasting marshmallows. Again, we left early to swim, as we were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.
Today we got up, packed all of our stuff and checked out of the hotel. We drove back to camp to say goodbye to everyone, and then headed home. We got back at around 1:30.
And thus ended our trip. Despite suffering from insomnia for three nights and nearly getting my finger tip chopped off, I had a relatively good time. I’m just happy to be back home with my kitty and my fish. :3
